Karachi: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has completed the public hearing regarding the December 2023 monthly fuel charge adjustment (FCA) of K-Electric (K-Electric). Klectric had submitted a request for a reduction of Rs 4.95 per unit to the FCA, on which NEPRA has announced to issue a detailed decision after further examination of the data. According to KALECTRIC, the FCA in November 2023 was charged with a reduction of Rs 1 by 23 paise per unit, while the FCA for December proposes a further reduction of Rs 3 by 72 paise per unit compared to October. If this reduction is approved, it will provide significant relief in electricity bills to consumers. KELECTRIC clarified that this FCA will be applicable to all applicable consumers, except Lifeline consumers and domestic consumers who consume up to 300 units of electricity. In addition, this FCA will also apply to prepaid customers, agricultural customers, and electric vehicle charging stations.
NEPRA says it will issue its final decision after a thorough examination of the data submitted by K-Electric. If the reduction is approved, it could be a significant relief for consumers, especially in the current economic conditions where inflation remains a burden on the public.
