4700 Pakistani beggars arrested in Saudi Arabia; Khawaja Asif expresses concern

Sialkot: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has revealed that 4,700 Pakistani nationals have been arrested in Saudi Arabia for begging, which is affecting the country’s reputation internationally. Addressing an event of the Ready Made Garments Association in Sialkot, Khawaja Asif said that it is the responsibility of politicians to play a role in saving Pakistan from disgrace.

He also came down heavily on the country’s energy sector, saying the manner in which the IPPs gained financial interests was nothing short of a robbery. He said the IPPs policy, introduced during the PPP rule in 1993, continued till 1997, while most of the installation of these plants took place during the tenure of General Musharraf.

The defense minister said that the solar energy sector in Pakistan has improved, but at the same time, it has to bear a duty loss of $4 billion on imports, which is a big challenge for the economy.
