Trump’s UN speech: Harsh criticism of climate policies, immigration

US President Donald Trump openly criticized global institutions and policies in his address to the UN General Assembly today, and took a tough stance on issues such as climate change, immigration and Palestine.

Trump called climate change measures “the world’s biggest fraud” and said that Europe’s green energy policies were destroying its economy. He said these policies had become more of a conspiracy than science.

In his speech, he also strongly objected to the immigration policies of European countries and said that open or soft border policies are “ruining” Western countries. According to him, countries should close their borders and expel illegal immigrants.

President Trump accused the United Nations of failing to perform to its potential. He said that the US administration has repeatedly had to make peace efforts itself because the UN has failed in this regard.

Speaking on the Palestine-Israel conflict, Trump said that recognizing a Palestinian state would actually be tantamount to “giving a reward to Hamas,” which could fuel further conflicts. He also demanded the immediate release of the hostages.

During the speech, Trump urged European countries to stop buying Russian energy, otherwise heavy tariffs would be imposed.

According to experts, Trump’s speech once again highlights his nationalist agenda, which places border control, doubts about international agreements, and putting American interests first.
