PM Shahbaz Sharif’s message: Youth and women will be empowered by the power of information in the digital era

LAHORE: On the occasion of World Access to Information Day, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has highlighted the government’s vision to empower citizens digitally. He termed access to information not just a legal right but also the foundation of transparency and accountability, which ultimately strengthens public sovereignty.

The Prime Minister said that in today’s modern era, the unhindered flow of information is the key to good governance and it strengthens the relationship between the people and the state. He particularly emphasized on access to information for women and youth, promising that the government will ensure digital equality. PM Shahbaz Sharif informed that the government has implemented this right through legislation and reforms, while the Pakistan Information Commission is active in redressing citizens’ grievances.

In another important initiative, digitization work is underway to make public records secure and easily accessible. The Prime Minister appealed to all stakeholders for cooperation to create an open and knowledge-based society, which would strengthen democracy and enable the country to move forward on the path of rapid development and prosperity. He clearly assured that the government would continue its efforts to promote and protect this right for the betterment of all.
