The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Dubai witnessed a heated exchange over the Asia Cup winner’s trophy, with ACC President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi firmly rejecting the repeated demand by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice President, Rajiv Shukla, to hand over the trophy.
Sources indicate that during the meeting, chaired by Mohsin Naqvi, Rajiv Shukla continuously insisted that the Asia Cup trophy be given to India. However, Naqvi delivered a clear and categorical refusal.
Mohsin Naqvi reportedly dismissed the Indian official’s demand, stating that the matter was not on the agenda of the meeting. He reminded the gathering that he was present on the stage as the ACC chief during the Asia Cup closing ceremony to present the trophy, but the Indian team themselves refused to receive it.
Taking a resolute stance, the ACC President stated that if the Indian team now desires the trophy, Captain Suryakumar Yadav must come directly to the ACC President’s office to collect it.
Sources further revealed that the conduct of the Indian team was also strongly criticized during the meeting. Specific condemnation was directed towards the team’s refusal to shake hands with the Pakistani captain and the political statements made by Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav. It is recalled that despite winning the tournament, the Indian team, due to its perceived ‘stubbornness,’ refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi at the closing ceremony and was unwilling to receive it through any other means.
Among other decisions made, the meeting also finalized that the next Asia Cup tournament will be hosted by Bangladesh in 2027. This decision was part of a process to settle the future schedule and venues for Asian cricket.
