Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has said that there is no provision for referendum in the constitution of Azad Kashmir and any hasty constitutional or political changes can harm the Kashmir cause.

In a statement issued, the Law Minister said that while discussing politics and state affairs, constitutional and legal aspects should be understood with a cool heart. He said that the voters of the twelve seats of Azad Kashmir directly belong to Kashmir, these people lost their homes due to the struggle for freedom from Indian slavery and Pakistan settled them as guests. Their relationship with Kashmir cannot be terminated in any way.

Azam Nazeer Tarar stressed that a comprehensive constitutional package and political consensus are needed in such matters, in which all Kashmiri leadership and representatives should be included. He said that if these major decisions are taken in a hurry, they may raise constitutional and legal objections, which may affect the Kashmir freedom movement.

According to experts, this stance of the Law Minister is a reminder that hasty decisions can not only create legal problems but can also weaken Pakistan’s long-standing Kashmir stance.
