The Israeli cabinet has approved a ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement in Gaza. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US Special Representative for the Middle East Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
A statement issued after the cabinet meeting said that the Israeli government has ratified the agreement to release all hostages. Under the agreement, the Israeli army will partially withdraw from Gaza in exchange for the release of about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
On the other hand, according to the news agency, the Israeli army has reached the border from the southern city of Khan Yunis and the central area of Nussirat refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. While the road to the Mediterranean coast near Gaza City has also been cleared.
Rescue workers have resumed relief activities in Gaza City. The bodies of 10 Palestinians killed in airstrikes in recent days have been recovered from the rubble.
According to the Trump peace plan, the first phase of the ceasefire will see the exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, which is being considered a major step towards peace talks.
