Poultry prices in Lahore today witnessed a slight change, with chicken and egg prices remaining fairly stable in the city’s retail markets, offering a welcome respite to consumers grappling with inflation in other food categories.
According to the latest official data, the price of live chicken was recorded at Rs 318 per kilogram, while chicken meat was available at Rs 461 per kilogram. Meanwhile, egg prices were stable at Rs 315 per dozen in local markets.
Traders in the provincial capital attributed the current stability to a balanced supply of chicken. They noted that despite facing challenges from the rising cost of feed and transportation, the market has managed to remain under control.
This stabilization has been particularly welcomed by consumers in Lahore, as chicken and eggs continue to serve as relatively cheap sources of protein amidst the broader inflationary pressures on other food items.
However, a note of caution was sounded by retailers, who warned that poultry prices could still fluctuate in the coming days. They highlighted that the poultry sector is highly sensitive to both temperature and production costs, meaning any significant change in weather or disruption in food supply could lead to price volatility.
For now, the steady prices are providing much-needed relief to Lahore residents.
