An extraordinary high-level meeting on law and order was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, in which the peace situation in the province and possible protest activities were discussed in detail.

It was decided in the meeting that strong action will be taken against those who spread unrest, violence or sedition in the name of protest and those who challenge the state writ will be dealt with iron hands.

The Punjab government has approved registering a case under the PECA Act for the provocative and misleading statement of PTI founder Imran Khan regarding 400 bodies.

A statement issued after the meeting said that the aim of the state is not to target any religious group but to eliminate those elements who have been involved in destroying peace and spreading chaos in the past.

It was further decided that cases will be registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) against those who use the pulpits of mosques or forums of madrasas for hatred, chaos or violence.

The Punjab government imposed a complete ban on the use of nailed sticks, petrol bombs and weapons during protests and also issued instructions for immediate action against violation of loudspeaker laws.

The meeting said that Section 144 is in force in the province, and terrorism cases will be registered against those who violate it.

It was decided to take strict action against the facilitators of extremist groups and their supporters, while cases will be registered under a zero-tolerance policy against hateful, provocative or sedition-spreading content on social media.

The provincial government made it clear that there is no room for extremism and incitement in Punjab, and security agencies have been given full powers to take immediate and effective action.
