Pakistan’s National Space and Aeronautical Research Organization (SUPARCO) has released its astronomical forecast for the moon of Jamadi-ul-Awwal 1447 AH, indicating a strong possibility of sighting the moon on the evening of October 23, 2025. According to the forecast, if the moon is sighted, the new Islamic month will begin on October 24. Suparco has confirmed that the birth (rising) of the new moon has occurred today (October 21) at 5:25 PM.
Astronomical estimates indicate that the age of the crescent moon at sunset on October 23 will be approximately 48 hours and 54 minutes, which is a very favourable age for moon sighting. Furthermore, according to the Suparco data, there will be a valuable gap of about 56 minutes between sunset and moonset in coastal areas. According to astronomers, all these factors collectively indicate that if the weather remains clear and there are no clouds on the horizon, the new moon can be easily seen on the evening of October 23, resulting in the first date of Jumada al-Awwal being October 24, 2025.
It should be noted that the final and official announcement of the start of the Islamic month is not based on the scientific predictions of Suparco. The country’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet for this purpose on the evening of October 23 and will issue a final decision on whether the moon has been sighted or not after considering the Shariah shahadahs (witnesses of moon sighting) received from across the country.
