Smog reigns: Lahore is the world’s most polluted city, schools likely to be closed

The intensity of smog in Lahore has reached a record level, and according to the data of the Meteorological Department, the city’s Air Quality Index has reached 412. This level is considered very harmful to health, due to which Lahore is currently at the top of the list of the most polluted cities in the world. Experts have also expressed fears that air pollution will increase further in the coming days.

In view of the situation, the provincial government has warned the education department that if pollution does not decrease, it should prepare a recommendation to close primary schools immediately. According to the Environment Department, smoke from factories and vehicle exhaust are the main reasons for the increase in smog.

The public has been instructed to ensure the use of masks, reduce unnecessary movement during sensitive times and immediately contact authorities for any environmental violations. If the air quality does not improve, it is possible that school closures may be announced next week.
