Sources say that it has been decided to give another chance to the ongoing negotiation process between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban. The Pakistani delegation, which was ready to return home, will now stay in Istanbul longer to take the peace process forward.
According to sources, the talks will focus on Pakistan’s central demand that the Afghan government take verifiable and effective action against terrorists. Islamabad has once again stressed that Afghan soil should not be used for attacks against Pakistan.
It should be noted that the first round of talks was held in the Qatari capital, Doha, where a ceasefire was agreed upon. Later, the second and third rounds were held in Istanbul, in which the implementation of the previously agreed points was reviewed.
Earlier, Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar had announced that the four-day talks did not prove fruitful. According to him, the Afghan Taliban did not give any clear guarantee to stop terrorism despite the evidence. The minister said that Pakistan will continue operations against terrorists and their supporters on its soil.
