Jamaat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (F) ameer Maulana Fazlur Rehman made several key points during an important press conference in Chiniot. He said that Afghanistan and Pakistan are not only neighbours, and there is an Islamic country, but “there is only one nation living on this side of the border.”
He said that “the problem of Afghanistan worsened during the rule of General Musharraf”, and its effects are being felt till today.
In addition, the Maulana immediately instructed the workers to be ready, with the hope that changes would come in the country. He said that a proposal was made to give a monthly stipend of Rs 25,000 to the scholars, but they rejected it. He stressed that “even if we give Rs 2.5 million, they will not come under our control”.
This statement is an expression of the independent thinking of the party and the autonomy of the religious leadership and is also an expression of a sharp reaction to relevant issues at home and abroad.
