Air pollution has increased to dangerous levels in several cities of Punjab, while Lahore has come third among the most polluted cities in the country.
According to an international website, Kasur was declared the most affected city where the air pollution level was recorded at 686 particulate matter meters. 601 particulate matter meters were noted in Raiwind, 442 in Gujranwala, 337 in Faisalabad and 358 in Sheikhupura.
According to the Punjab Environment Department, Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached 450, while AQI was recorded up to 500 on Burki Road, Shahdara, Multan Road, GT Road and Egerton Road.
The department says that polluted easterly winds coming from India are having a direct impact on Lahore’s air quality. According to the report, Lahore’s average AQI is likely to be between 320 and 360.
However, a partial improvement in air quality is expected between 1 pm and 5 pm. Medical experts have advised citizens to use masks and not step out of their homes unnecessarily.
