Talal Chaudhary has said while talking to the media in Faisalabad that the country cannot afford any kind of chaos at this time, and it is necessary for national stability that the parliament be allowed to work with constitutional powers. According to him, amending the constitution has always been the prerogative of the elected parliament, and no institution is authorised to give political colour to this process.
He said that judges take an oath of the constitution and the courts cannot play the role of political parties. If judges say that if the constitution is changed, they will leave their posts, then this behaviour is not in accordance with the constitutional system. He claimed that parliament approves everything from judges’ salaries to their powers, and many decisions in the past have been political in nature.
In his speech, he strongly criticised past court decisions and said that sometimes prime ministers were dismissed through suo motu, sometimes elected governments were weakened, and sometimes specific personalities were suddenly brought in and given positions. According to him, this process made the parliament like a local body.
He said that when the elections in Punjab were found difficult, they boycotted them, while elections are being contested in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He added that Sohail Afridi will fulfil his responsibilities as the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province with full seriousness.
