Weekly inflation in the country decreased by 0.64 percent, tomatoes and chicken, including essential items, became cheaper

The Pakistan Statistical Bureau, while issuing a weekly inflation report, has said that weekly inflation in the country decreased by 0.64 percent, after which the annual overall inflation rate has come to 4 percent.

According to the data, last week, the prices of 13 essential items increased and 15 decreased, while the prices of 23 items remained stable.

According to the report, garlic became expensive by 1.86 percent, cooking oil by 1.54 percent, eggs by 0.81 percent and ghee by 0.40 percent in the latest week. Similarly, the prices of bananas, flour, LPG and cigarettes also increased.

On the other hand, tomatoes became cheaper by 30.11 percent, onions by 12.41 percent, potatoes by 6.92 percent, chicken by 4.46 percent and sugar by 3.31 percent. Prices of petrol, diesel, gram and lentil also saw a decrease.

Experts say that the significant decline in vegetable prices is the result of improved seasonal supply, however, they say that possible fluctuations in global food prices may again affect the local market, hence the current decline is being termed as ‘temporary relief’.
