The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a bearish trend at the end of the week’s trading session, as a result of which the benchmark KSE-100 index closed 243 points lower at 170,830. Investors’ cautious strategy and profit-taking trend maintained pressure on the market.
The market witnessed a mixed trend at the start of trading. In the early hours, the index showed a bullish trend and at one point reached a high of 171,587 points due to buying in shares of some big companies. However, this bullish trend could not be sustained for long and selling pressure changed the direction of the market in the second part of the day.
During trading, the index also fell to a low of 170,641 points at one point, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty among investors. According to market analysts, uncertainty in global markets, concerns about future economic policies and profit-taking after the recent boom were the main reasons for this decline.
It may be recalled that at the end of the previous trading day, the KSE 100 index closed at 171,073 points. In this context, the market faced a clear decline in the current session, although the overall level is still close to historical highs.
The market saw pressure on shares of the banking, energy and cement sectors, while limited buying also continued in a few selected stocks. Analysts say that correction is a natural process after the extraordinary rally in the market in recent days, which investors are looking at from a long-term perspective.
There was also a mixed trend in terms of trading volume, where activity was low in some sectors while normal transactions were seen in some stocks. According to experts, investors are currently keeping a close eye on economic indicators, interest rate expectations and global financial trends.
Market experts say that volatility may persist in the short term, however, fundamental economic factors and corporate results will determine the direction of the market in the long term. Investors are being advised to adopt a cautious strategy by avoiding unnecessary risk.
