The vacations of educational institutions in Punjab have been extended by a week and now schools will open from January 19 instead of January 12. This decision was announced by Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat through social media.
According to the Education Minister, the decision has been taken keeping in mind the severe cold, foggy conditions and the health of children. He said that the government’s top priority is the safety of students, hence the final decision was taken based on public opinion.
A spokesperson for the Education Department said that in a survey conducted on the Education Minister’s official social media page, about 87% of citizens voted in favor of extending the vacations. Respecting public opinion, the government announced the extension of the vacations.
Traffic flow in various cities of Punjab remained affected due to heavy fog today, while many educational activities remained partially suspended.  A large number of parents have termed the decision timely and correct.
According to the Meteorological Department, the country’s lowest temperature of minus 12 degrees Celsius was recorded in Skardu during the last 24 hours, while cold winds and fog persisted in the plains of Punjab.
Education experts say that sending children to school in severe weather can be harmful to health, so the extension of the holidays is a positive step.
According to the Education Department, schools will open as usual from January 19 and educational activities will resume.
