The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is going to introduce a completely open auction system for the selection of players for the first time in 2026. According to sources, this auction will be implemented after the approval of the chairman board.
A workshop will be held on Sunday in which team owners will be given detailed information about the auction procedure, the principles of pricing players and the rules of the league. Under this system, all franchises will compete on an equal basis, which is an important step towards transparency in the league.
The old franchises have requested to retain four players, including the brand ambassador, while the new teams have set a condition of zero retention. The final decision on this will be taken by the chairman board.
PSL Governing Council Chairman Mohsin Naqvi explained to the team owners the benefits of open auction, which will improve the opportunities of players and bring transparency to the league. Analysts say that this change will also be of interest to the fans as the auction itself will become a prominent event.
Fans will be able to watch the keen approach of player selection through live open bidding for the first time. Through this innovative system, PSL 2026 will set a new record not only in quality but also in fan interest.
