Lahore announces local holiday on February 6, citizens get long weekend due to Basant

The Punjab government has announced a local holiday on February 6 in Lahore in view of Basant celebrations, after which citizens have got the opportunity to have four consecutive days of holidays.
According to administrative sources, initially the proposal to give a holiday on February 5 was under consideration, however, after final consultation, it was decided to keep February 6 as a holiday so that citizens can participate fully in Basant activities. This decision has created an atmosphere of joy in the city due to continuous holidays from Thursday to Sunday.
The district administration says that on the occasion of Basant, a large number of people will fly kites and other events on the rooftops of houses and open spaces, in view of which special arrangements are being made for security and traffic management.
The Deputy Commissioner Lahore has issued instructions that to ensure the safety of minors, persons below the age of 18 will be able to participate in the events only with their parents or guardians. According to officials, this step has been taken to prevent possible accidents and emergencies.
The administration has appealed to the citizens to follow the safety rules and avoid violating the law so that the joys of Basant can be celebrated in a peaceful environment.
