According to sources within the Ministry of Petroleum Pakistan, the price of petrol in Pakistan has reached approximately $1.15 per litre following the latest adjustment in fuel prices.

Officials said the increase has placed Pakistan among the countries in the region where petrol is relatively expensive compared to neighbouring markets.

Data shared by ministry sources shows that petrol prices in several regional countries remain lower than in Pakistan. In India, the average petrol price stands at about $1.03 per litre.

Meanwhile, the cost of petrol in Sri Lanka is currently around 94 cents per litre, while in Bangladesh it is approximately 95 cents per litre.

The comparison highlights the price gap between Pakistan and other South Asian economies where fuel costs are currently relatively lower.

Earlier this month, on March 6, the government announced a significant increase in fuel prices across the country. Petrol and diesel rates were raised by around Rs55 per litre in one of the largest price adjustments in recent months.

The sharp hike has triggered concerns among consumers and businesses, as higher fuel prices often lead to increased transportation costs and contribute to inflation.

Energy analysts say fuel price fluctuations in Pakistan are often influenced by international oil prices, exchange rate movements, and government tax policies.

With global energy markets remaining volatile, experts believe fuel prices in Pakistan could continue to fluctuate in the coming months depending on international trends and domestic fiscal decisions.
