Jet fuel price fixed at Rs 471: Rs 283 interest rate increase in one month

The government has further increased the price of jet fuel by Rs 83 per litre, after which the new price has reached the level of Rs 471 per litre. Since the beginning of March 2026, the prices have been increased four times in a row, resulting in the price going up from Rs 188 to Rs 471 in just 28 days. This constant increase has made it difficult for airlines to continue their operations, as fuel costs are a large part of the total costs of the airline industry.

The representatives of the airlines have expressed deep concern over the situation and said that the total increase of Rs 283 during March will make air travel beyond the reach of the common man. The continued increase is likely to lead to a large increase in ticket prices, which may reduce passenger numbers.

Aviation industry experts believe that if fuel prices are not stabilised, the aviation sector in the country will suffer from a severe financial crisis, which will have negative effects on the country’s economy and tourism.
