While meat and gas prices have climbed, there is some relief for consumers coming from the vegetable markets. According to the PBS weekly report, 9 items became cheaper over the last seven days, including several staple vegetables.
Tomatoes saw a significant price drop of 6.03%, a welcome change for a basic ingredient in most Pakistani dishes. Similarly, the price of garlic fell by 3.38%, potatoes by 1.22%, and onions by 1.21%.
Market analysts attribute this decrease to the arrival of new crops and improvements in the supply chain. Although other costs remain high, the drop in vegetable prices provides temporary breathing room for daily wage earners and low-income families.
