Bus fares cut after diesel price reduction

Public transport fares have been reduced across major intercity routes following a recent decline in diesel prices, officials said on Saturday.

Authorities announced that fares for intercity and interprovincial buses have been cut by up to 5%, with immediate effect. The move follows a Rs32 per litre decrease in diesel prices.

According to the revised fare list, ticket prices from Lahore to several cities, including Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur, have been lowered. Fares to cities in southern Punjab such as Multan and Bahawalpur have also been reduced.

Officials said the reduction reflects the impact of lower fuel costs on transport operations and is intended to provide relief to passengers.

Transporters have been directed to implement the new fares immediately and ensure transparency by displaying updated fare charts at bus terminals. Authorities also warned of strict action against those found overcharging commuters.

Analysts note that the fare reduction could help ease inflationary pressure on daily commuters, particularly those travelling long distances.
