Hafiz Naeem Slams Government Over Rs 1,234 Billion Petroleum Levy ‘Injustice’

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has lambasted the federal government for collecting a staggering Rs 1,234 billion as Petroleum Levy within just ten months, labelling it an “unjust tax” on the common man.

In a detailed message on X (formerly Twitter), the JI leader pointed out that during only six weeks of regional conflict, the government extracted Rs 180 billion from citizens under the guise of a levy—a charge that has no direct correlation with the actual cost of fuel.

“This levy has increased by 400% compared to the same period last year,” he noted. Highlighting the disparity, he stated that even non-earning students and low-income bike riders are being forced to pay the same taxes as the elite.

Key Demands:

  • Immediate Abolition: The JI Emir called for the complete removal of the petroleum levy.
  • Price Fixation: He demanded the government set the petrol price at Rs 250 per liter to provide breathing space to the inflation-hit masses.
