Islamabad Red Zone Sealed: Schools and Offices Shift to WFH on April 21

The federal capital’s high-security Red Zone will remain off-limits to the general public on Tuesday, April 21, as the district administration extends stringent movement restrictions. A formal notification issued by the District Magistrate on Monday confirmed that the suspension of public entry is a direct continuation of the security orders first implemented on April 19.

The move comes as Islamabad transforms into a diplomatic fortress, hosting critical international delegations. With the city’s nerve center sealed, the administration has strongly advised a shift in daily operations for those within the vicinity.

Work-from-Home Mandate for Schools and Offices

The District Magistrate’s notification specifically targets the administrative and educational hubs located within the sensitive perimeter. “In view of the above, it is requested that all offices and schools (public/private) situated in the Red Zone may adopt a work-from-home arrangement on the said date in order to avoid any inconvenience,” the order reads.

This directive aimed at minimizing foot traffic comes as a relief to parents and employees who feared being caught in the gridlock caused by the multi-layered security cordons. While the order is framed as a request to “avoid inconvenience”, law enforcement agencies have already fortified entry points with containers and heavy personnel deployment, making physical access nearly impossible for non-essential staff.

Maintaining Administrative Continuity

Despite the physical closure, the government is keen to ensure that the machinery of the state does not grind to a halt. Federal employees have been instructed to remain available at their stations, ready to respond to official duties remotely. The district administration has urged citizens to cooperate with the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) and follow designated diversion routes as the capital navigates a week of unprecedented diplomatic activity.
