Iranian President Masoud Pezishkian has made it clear in two words that Tehran will not sit at the negotiating table under any kind of pressure, threats or economic blockade. According to Mehr News Agency, the Iranian President discussed the current situation in the region and diplomatic efforts in detail in a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif yesterday.
On this occasion, President Pezishkian highly praised Pakistan’s consistent and positive role in restoring lasting peace in the Middle East and appreciated Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts. During the conversation, President Pezishkian expressed deep concern over the recent progress regarding the ceasefire and the hostile attitude of the United States.
He strongly criticised the behaviour of the US administration and said that Washington’s continuous interference and coercive policies during the negotiations and ceasefire process are a serious violation of international norms. The Iranian president described Washington’s recent naval sanctions and trade blockades on Iran as contrary to the UN Charter, saying that these measures negate all the agreements reached regarding the ceasefire.
He further said that the US’s threatening tone and policy of economic blockade are damaging the credibility of the ongoing diplomatic process at the global level and that these measures have cast doubt on the US claims of resolving issues through diplomacy.
Tehran has given a clear message that Iran is in favour of talks on the basis of equality and mutual respect and will not accept any attempt aimed at affecting Iran’s national dignity or sovereignty.
