Petrol and diesel sales decline, overall demand increases in fiscal year

During April 2026, the country recorded a decline in petrol and high-speed diesel sales, while furnace oil sales increased, indicating changing trends in the energy sector.According to the data, petrol sales stood at 0.61 million tonnes, down 8 percent month-on-month and 7 percent year-on-year.

Similarly, high-speed diesel sales stood at 0.55 million tonnes, down 7 percent month-on-month and 12 percent year-on-year.On the contrary, furnace oil sales reached 0.14 million tonnes, reflecting the increasing demand for this fuel in recent months.

Total petroleum product sales during the first 10 months of the fiscal year were 13.76 million tonnes, up 4 percent from the previous year.

During this period, petrol sales were 6.41 million tonnes and high-speed diesel sales were 5.90 million tonnes, up 4 percent and 5 percent respectively.Pakistan State Oil’s sales were 5.83 million tonnes in the 10 months, showing a slight decline. The company’s sales also saw a decline during April.

According to experts, one reason for the decline in fuel sales could be the slowdown in economic activity, while the increase in furnace oil demand reflects temporary changes in the energy sector.
