The government maintains that the people are already facing economic difficulties, so heavy fines were becoming an additional burden on the citizens.

According to the amended law, the fine for driving without a driving license has been reduced from Rs 50,000 to Rs 5,000. Similarly, the penalty for violating one-way traffic was earlier six months in prison and a fine of Rs 50,000, but now only a fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed.

There has also been relaxation for those driving under the age of 18. Earlier, a fine of Rs 50,000 was fixed for this offense along with imprisonment, but after the new law, only a fine of Rs 10,000 will have to be paid.Similarly, fines for driving without a fitness certificate, overloading and carrying passengers on the roof of the vehicle have also been reduced to Rs 5,000.

Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider said that the government’s aim is to implement the law, but it is also necessary to take care of the public’s problems. He said that rickshaw drivers, motorcycle riders and daily wage earners were facing severe financial pressure due to unusual fines.
