Heavy Bombing Failed to Cripple Iran’s Missile Program: CIA Report

A new US intelligence report has raised questions about President Donald Trump’s claims that most of Iran’s missiles have been destroyed.

According to a US newspaper report, a preliminary CIA analysis has revealed that despite intense air strikes and bombing, Iran has managed to preserve about 75 percent of its mobile missile launchers and 70 percent of its missile stockpile.

The report says that Iranian authorities have reactivated underground missile facilities, while repairs to several damaged missiles have also been completed. In addition, Iran is maintaining the ability to produce new missiles.

Speaking in the Oval Office on Wednesday, President Trump said that only 18 or 19 percent of Iran’s missiles remained and most of the rest had been destroyed, but a US intelligence report paints a different picture.

US officials have also acknowledged that Iran’s deterrence capabilities have proven to be much stronger than initial estimates were being made in Washington. According to a US official, the Iranian leadership has taken a more hardline stance and is showing no signs of backing down despite pressure.

According to experts, this situation could further increase tensions in the region, while questions are also being raised about Washington’s future strategy.
