The Punjab government has announced four-day public holidays across the province on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha 2026. According to a notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD), all government offices will remain closed from May 26 to May 29. After this announcement, the enthusiasm for Eid preparations has increased among government employees and citizens.
According to the notification issued, the holidays will apply to all government institutions and offices across Punjab. Officials say that special instructions have also been issued to the relevant departments to provide better facilities to the public during Eid-ul-Adha so that there is no problem in transport, cleanliness, security and other administrative matters.
According to sources, a security plan is also being prepared in different cities of the province on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. Police, rescue, health and local bodies have been directed to remain alert so that the situation at sacrificial animal markets, mosques and public places can be better controlled.
The Punjab government has also emphasised improving travel facilities for citizens. Inter-district transport is likely to increase during the Eid holidays, while special arrangements are being made at bus terminals, railway stations and other public places. The concerned institutions have been instructed to ensure that passengers do not face any kind of trouble.
After the announcement of the holidays, there is also a possibility of increased rush in markets and shopping centres. Citizens are seen busy with Eid shopping, sacrificial animals and household preparations. Business circles say that a significant increase in commercial activities is expected before Eid-ul-Azha, especially in the sectors of clothes, shoes, livestock markets and food items.
Experts say that the Eid-ul-Adha holidays not only have religious and social significance but also see a temporary increase in activities in the country’s economy during this time. Business volume increases in livestock markets, transport, the food sector and retail markets, which provides employment opportunities to thousands of people.
On the other hand, citizens have welcomed this decision of the Punjab government. People say that the four-day holidays will give families an opportunity to spend time with each other and perform the religious rituals of Eid in a better way. Many citizens are already planning to visit their native areas.
Authorities have appealed to citizens to follow cleanliness, traffic rules and security instructions during Eid-ul-Adha so that the festival can be celebrated in a safe and pleasant atmosphere.
