Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to Geneva to attend the signing ceremony of the proposed agreement between Iran and the United States, where the two countries are expected to sign a preliminary memorandum of understanding. According to government sources, the prime minister will attend the ceremony along with a high-level Pakistani delegation.
According to Arab media reports, the preliminary agreement is likely to be signed on Friday, after which negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program, possible easing of economic sanctions, regional security and other important issues will continue for about sixty days.
Statements issued by Iranian and American officials have said that the preliminary understanding will reduce military activities on various fronts while measures will also be taken to restore maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. This development is being described as important for global trade and energy markets.
On the other hand, some American political figures have warned that different interpretations of the agreement’s provisions could lead to differences in the future. According to analysts, the success of the negotiation process at this stage will depend on confidence-building measures and practical progress by both sides.
