Nawaz Sharif Urges Political Stability and Dialogue in Azad Kashmir

Pakistan Muslim League (N) President and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed concern over the current political situation in Azad Kashmir and said that solutions to the problems should be sought within the constitutional framework and through talks.

Addressing an important meeting of the PML-N in Lahore, Nawaz Sharif said that political issues should not escalate in a way that increases tension. He stressed that the struggle for public rights can be effective and fruitful only by staying within the constitution and law.

He said that Pakistan is a common home where all citizens should live with brotherhood and tolerance. According to him, the people of Azad Kashmir have made historic sacrifices for the country and their feelings must be respected.

Nawaz Sharif said that the Pakistan Muslim League (N) has a clear and principled stand on the Kashmir issue, under which the people of occupied Kashmir should get the right to self-determination in accordance with the UN resolutions. He said that the development, fundamental rights and constitutional protection of the people of Azad Kashmir have always been the party’s priority.

The meeting reviewed the current political situation and administrative matters in Azad Kashmir in detail. The top leadership of the Muslim League (N) also attended the meeting and expressed regret over the loss of precious lives due to the recent incidents in the region, while prayers were also offered for the deceased.

The former prime minister said that instead of protests and sit-ins, purposeful negotiations should be preferred so that the issues can be resolved peacefully. He urged all political parties to avoid such steps that are in the interest of external elements.

Nawaz Sharif, while appreciating the role of the government of Pakistan and the defense institutions in the current situation, said that the efforts of the institutions for national security and stability are commendable. He urged the political forces to promote national unity despite differences.

During the meeting, the party strategy regarding the election campaign in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir was also considered, while the services of Engineer Amir Muqam were appreciated, who played a role in making organizational activities effective.
