The differences between the Pakistan Peoples Party and the government regarding the federal budget 2026-27 seem to be decreasing. After a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the PPP has decided to participate in the budget debate in the National Assembly.
Over the past few days, the PPP had expressed serious reservations over various aspects of the budget. The party leadership said that the budget document included some proposals that were not shown to them during the pre-budget consultations. For this reason, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari distanced himself from the proceedings of the budget session and informed the government of his reservations.
According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, keeping in mind the sensitivity of the situation, directly contacted Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and invited him for a meeting. In this meeting, in addition to the federal budget, development projects, federal-provincial relations and the overall political situation of the country were discussed in detail.
After the meeting, it was decided that the PPP would be part of the ongoing budget debate in the National Assembly. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is expected to present his concerns and suggestions regarding the budget during his address to the House. According to political observers, this speech may also give important clues regarding the future of the government coalition.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders agreed that better coordination between the federation and the provinces is essential for the country’s development. The pace of ongoing development projects in Sindh and public welfare initiatives were also discussed in the meeting.
Political analysts say that although the PPP has criticized the budget, it has not given any indication of withdrawing its support to the government. This shows that despite their differences, the coalition parties are trying to resolve the issues through negotiations.
The situation in the Middle East and Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts were also discussed during the meeting. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to promote peace at the global level, while the Prime Minister stressed the importance of cooperation for political stability and national interest.
According to observers, more negotiations related to the budget are expected in the coming days. If the government succeeds in including some of the PPP’s demands in the budget, not only could the coalition ties be further strengthened, but the budget approval process would also become relatively easier.
