Opposition parties have agreed to adopt a common strategy within parliament. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that the opposition parties will move forward on a platform of joint opposition and adopt a stand on common points.

Addressing a press conference with opposition leaders in Islamabad, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that this process is still in its initial stage. According to him, the opposition parties will determine common ground through mutual consultation and based on it, they will formulate a future course of action.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman also expressed concern over the law and order situation in the country. He said that in the current situation, there is a need for coordination and a common political strategy among the opposition parties.

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai termed the progress of the alliance as good for Pakistan and expressed hope that the country will move forward.

A joint meeting of the opposition parties was held at the Parliament House on Monday. The meeting was attended by leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, JUI-F, Tehreek-e-Tahafuz Ain Pakistan, Majlis-e-Wahdat Muslimeen and other opposition parties. It was agreed to adopt a common course of action regarding parliamentary legislation and protest activities.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar said that the meeting lasted for several hours and the participants presented their suggestions. According to him, the opposition parties will try to reach a consensus on legislative issues in the parliament.

However, some opposition leaders have made it clear that at the current stage the alliance is mainly limited to cooperation within the parliament. According to JUI-F leader Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, consultations are still underway on a broader political alliance outside the parliament.

Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas also supported the joint position of the opposition. He also raised the issue of implementation of court orders regarding PTI founder Imran Khan. In recent days, the issue of Imran Khan’s medical examination and the issue related to Shifa International Hospital have also been among the main demands of the opposition.

This agreement of the opposition parties has come at a time when there are differences in parliament on the government’s legislation, political prisoners and judicial matters. The formation of a joint opposition may give different parties an opportunity to use their political power at the parliamentary level in a more organized manner.

However, the practical significance of this alliance will depend on the parties’ common stance and continued cooperation in future meetings. Different opposition parties have their own political agendas. Therefore, maintaining a common strategy will be a major challenge for the alliance.
