The US has announced a new campaign to increase economic pressure against Iran. US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant announced the launch of “Operation Economic Outcast” on Monday. According to him, the aim of the measure is to restrict Iran’s global financial and trade links.

Besant said that Washington will target sources of economic support to Iran. He also warned other countries and companies that they could face US sanctions if they maintain business ties with Tehran.

The new US Treasury Department action focuses on five key sectors linked to Iran. These include digital assets, technology, gold, aviation and shipping. US officials have also added more than 60 people, entities and ships to the scope of the sanctions.

Besant described the campaign as part of a broader strategy by US President Donald Trump. According to him, the US wants to restrict global networks linked to Iran’s financial activities. Washington says that this pressure is aimed at reducing Tehran’s main sources of income.

The US Treasury Secretary warned foreign parties with financial and trade ties to Iran in particular. He said that entities that provide financial facilities to Iran could face secondary sanctions. However, the US did not immediately disclose the names of all the countries or entities that could be affected.

Networks related to Iranian oil revenues are also a key target in the latest measures. The US Treasury Department has already imposed a number of sanctions on Iran’s oil trade and related shipping networks. Washington argues that these revenues support the Iranian regime’s financial and defense activities.

Besant also called the Strait of Hormuz important in the context of US strategy. Washington says that pressure on Iran will be increased through economic pressure to reduce ongoing tensions in the region and restore normal traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

The economic impact of this campaign could be significant for Iran. The new sanctions could increase obstacles to banking, oil, shipping and other international business activities. At the same time, foreign companies doing business with Iran will also have to assess the risks of US sanctions.

On the other hand, Iran has indicated a strong response to the US sanctions. Iranian officials have rejected these measures and have also warned countries cooperating with the US. This situation is likely to further increase the already existing tension between the US and Iran.

The US move is also important for the global economy. Iran holds an important position in the global oil trade and the energy market due to the Strait of Hormuz. Therefore, if the scope of the sanctions is extended or tensions arise in the Strait, global oil prices and shipping costs may be affected.

Currently, Washington has made it clear that it will further tighten its policy of financial pressure against Iran. However, the results of this strategy will depend on the response of Iran’s trading partners and the level of implementation of the new sanctions.
