The federal government has slightly reduced the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel. The new prices have been fixed for August 28, 2026. The Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Energy has issued a fresh notification in this regard.

According to the notification, the price of petrol has been reduced by 50 paise per litre. After this, the new price of petrol has become Rs. 342.60 per litre.

The price of high-speed diesel has also been reduced. After becoming 19 paise per litre cheaper, it has become Rs. 371.61 per litre.

Under the latest decision, both prices will be effective only for August 28. This means that under the current system, consumers may face revised prices the next day.

The government has recently adopted the method of daily revision of prices of petroleum products. Under this system, changes in global oil prices and other related cost factors are incorporated into local prices relatively quickly.

In recent days, there has been a continuous slight change in the prices of petrol and diesel. For August 26 and 27, petrol was fixed at Rs 343.10 per litre while diesel was fixed at Rs 371.80 per litre.

After the new reduction, there has been a slight relief in the price of petrol. However, since the reduction per litre is limited, its impact on the monthly travel expenses of ordinary consumers will not be very significant.

The change in the price of diesel is also minor. Diesel is widely used in transport, agriculture and freight. Therefore, a permanent and large reduction in its price can have a more significant impact on the cost of doing business.

Overall, for August 28, the government has reduced the prices of both the main petroleum products marginally. Due to the new mechanism of global oil prices and daily prices in the market, there is a possibility of changes in the prices in the coming days.
