The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has increased the price of LPG for September 2026, after which domestic consumers will have to pay more than before for gas cylinders.
According to the new rates issued by OGRA, the price of LPG has been increased by Rs 4.33 per kilogram from September 1. The new consumer price has been fixed at Rs 258.65 per kilogram.
Under the new rates, the price of an 11.8-kg domestic LPG cylinder has been fixed at Rs 3,052.9. Thus, the price of the cylinder has increased by Rs 51.17 compared to the previous month.
According to OGRA, the consumer price of LPG for September has been fixed at Rs 258,651.52 per metric ton. Similarly, the producer price will be Rs 217,351.52 per metric ton.
The price determination includes the cost of production of LPG, as well as marketing, distribution and transportation costs. The overall margin for these items has been kept at Rs 35,000 per metric ton.
This margin includes Rs 17,000 for marketing, Rs 10,000 for distribution and Rs 8,000 for transportation per metric ton. 18% GST is also applicable on these costs.
This increase in the price of LPG has come at a time when many households in the country use LPG for cooking. Especially in areas where pipeline gas supply is limited, even a small increase in the price can impact the household budget.
The new rates will be effective from September 1, 2026 and will remain applicable as the maximum price fixed by OGRA for September.
