National Savings has implemented new interest rates on various savings schemes, after which investors will get less profit on most certificates and accounts than before. However, the rate of one-year short-term savings certificate has been increased slightly.
According to the latest rates, the interest on Pensioners Benefit Account and Behbood Savings Certificate has been reduced by 36 basis points. The new rate has been fixed at 12.60 percent for both the schemes.
Regular Income Certificate is also included in the newly revised rates. Its rate has been reduced by 36 basis points to 11.16 percent. Similarly, the interest on Special Savings Account has been reduced by 30 basis points. The new rate of this scheme has been fixed at 10.90 percent.
The new rates are also important for short-term investors. The interest on three-month Short Term Savings Certificate has been reduced by 26 basis points to 10.86 percent. The rate of six-month certificate has also been reduced by 28 basis points and now it will yield 10.86 percent interest.
The case of one-year Short Term Savings Certificate is different in this change. Its rate has been increased by 11 basis points. The new rate has been fixed at 11.28 percent.
According to the National Savings Notification, the revised rates have been implemented immediately. This means that the new rates will be taken into account in calculating new investments and related returns.
National savings schemes are generally popular among investors who prefer relatively safe investments and regular income. The reduction in the new rates may especially affect the expected income of those who rely on the returns from these schemes to meet their pension or other financial needs.
The recent change also provides an opportunity for investors to re-evaluate their financial plans. The decision can be made by keeping in mind the tenure, rate of return and income requirement of different schemes.
Overall, the trend of reduction in the latest national savings rates is significant. Nevertheless, the increase in the rate of one-year short-term savings certificate is a notable change for investors. After the implementation of the new rates, it has become more important for savers to choose the appropriate scheme according to their preferences.
