Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has (PTI) to resolve political issues through talks instead of long marches and sit-ins and said that the government will not allow protests and sit-ins.
Addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Kashmir Chowk Underpass, the Prime Minister said that the country once again seems to be moving towards the politics of sit-ins and long marches. According to him, the political leadership should take the path of talks instead of confrontation.
Shehbaz Sharif said that the government and the coalition parties had formed a joint committee for talks with the PTI. Several sessions were held in the talks headed by the Speaker of the National Assembly; however, according to the Prime Minister, the desired result could not be achieved.
He alleged that during the talks, the PTI demanded changes in the previously agreed matters, due to which the talks could not move forward.
The prime minister said that during the last two and a half years, efforts have been made by the government and relevant institutions to bring stability to the economy. According to him, there is a possibility that the protest activities will affect business and industrial activities.
He said that if employees, laborers, or engineers are unable to reach their workplace due to road closures, it could have a wide-ranging impact. The government considers the protection of public life and property as its responsibility.
Shahbaz Sharif once again demanded that PTI abandon the politics of long marches and sit-ins. He said that the government is ready for talks if the protests are ended, but the rule of law will also be maintained.
During the ceremony, the prime minister also reviewed the progress of the Kashmir Chowk Underpass project. It was informed in the briefing that the PC-1 cost of the project was Rs 1.6 billion, while the contract was awarded for Rs 1.4 billion.
According to officials, the project will include four slip roads, and about 107,000 vehicles will pass through Kashmir Chowk daily. Traffic pressure increases further during peak hours.
The prime minister said that the Kashmir Chowk project is important for urban traffic and expressed hope that this route will reach Srinagar in the future.
