The government has reduced the price of petrol by Rs2.71 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs392.66, according to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division.
The price of high-speed diesel has also been lowered by Rs0.03 per litre to Rs396.82. The revised rates apply for October 14, the notification said.
The reduction in petrol prices is likely to provide limited relief to motorists, particularly those who rely on motorcycles and private vehicles for daily travel. The marginal cut in diesel prices, however, is unlikely to significantly affect transport and freight costs.
Petrol and diesel prices are closely linked to movements in the international oil market, according to the Petroleum Division. Changes in global prices influence domestic fuel costs, alongside other factors involved in the government’s pricing decisions.
Fuel prices remain an important component of household and business expenditure, affecting commuting costs, goods transportation and the broader cost of economic activity.
