Pakistan’s technology sector has shown a strong performance at the start of the fiscal year 2026-27. IT exports in September reached $435 million, the second highest monthly level after $437 million recorded in December 2025. This increase reflects the growing demand for Pakistani digital services in the global market.
September exports were also 10 percent higher than August, while the year-on-year increase was recorded at about 18 percent. According to Finance Advisor Khurram Shahzad, the incentives given in the budget for exporters and the IT sector supported this performance.
Pakistan’s overall services exports also increased during this period. Their volume during July-September was $2.719 billion, which is higher than $2.214 billion in the same period last year. Thus, the IT sector remained a major source of growth in services exports.
The government has set a target of increasing annual IT exports to $10 billion by fiscal year 2028-29 under its economic plan. To achieve this goal, it will be necessary to maintain the current growth momentum while also expanding access to new global markets and increasing the provision of high-value digital services.
These figures indicate new opportunities for Pakistani freelancers, software companies and technology businesses. However, long-term success will also depend on a skilled workforce, reliable internet, easy international payments and policy continuity.
