The government has reduced the price of petrol by Rs 3.93 per litre for the next three days, while it has been decided to maintain the price of high-speed diesel. According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Energy, the new prices will be applicable from October 17 and will remain in effect until October 19, 2026.
After the reduction, the new price of petrol has been fixed at Rs 386.30 per litre. On the other hand, high-speed diesel will be available at Rs 396.96 per litre.
This reduction in the price of petrol has been made at a time when the government has been continuously changing the fuel prices in recent days. In the prices implemented on October 16, petrol was reduced by Rs 3.63 to Rs 390.23 per litre, while diesel became more expensive by 31 paise.
According to the Petroleum Division, the price changes have been made keeping in mind the global market prices of petroleum products, plum rates, premiums and other related costs. The new prices have been fixed for three days, so there is a possibility of further changes at the time of the next review.
The reduction in petrol price will provide some relief to motorcycle and car users per litre. However, with the price of diesel remaining unchanged, there is limited expectation of an immediate reduction in freight and public transport costs. Fuel prices may also have an impact on the delivery of essential goods and overall inflation.
