Pakistan has condemned the continuous attacks by the Houthi militia on Saudi Arabia and reiterated its commitment to protect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of the kingdom. According to the Foreign Office, targeting civilian populations and critical installations is a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan said in a weekly briefing on October 16 that Pakistan is deeply concerned about the ongoing attacks on Saudi Arabia. He condemned the latest attack by the Houthi militia on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and sympathised with the injured.
The spokesperson clarified that Pakistan stands by its commitment under the Joint Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia. According to him, Pakistan will continue to cooperate for the security and stability of the kingdom. He said that Mecca has been nominated as the Secretary General of the Joint Defence Alliance and has assumed his responsibilities. The procedure and operational confidentiality of the relevant authorities are important in matters related to practical measures under the agreement.
A question regarding the imposition of an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was also raised during the briefing. The spokesperson said that this matter is related to the constitution and internal legal procedures of Pakistan. He was not aware of any foreign government contacting Pakistan to criticise or express concern over this move.
He said that maintaining peace and stability in the country is the primary responsibility of the government, and appropriate steps can be taken for this purpose. The spokesperson also advised approaching the relevant ministries for more details on this matter.
On the situation in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan had earlier condemned the Houthi attacks in a joint statement with Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Turkey. The four countries expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and called for an immediate and unconditional end to the attacks.
