Maulana Fazlur Rehman explains the urgent need to address tribal problems.

Dera Ismail Khan: The head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman outlined that certain tribal issues must be handled by the state according to his opinion during a press conference. Recent announcements by JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman included intentions to conduct another tribal jirga which will decide future steps while stressing the importance of listening to tribal elders.

A jirga took place earlier at Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence which brought together leaders from South and North Waziristan. The jirga convened representatives of multiple tribes together with community leaders to address pressing regional matters.

Since 2012 Maulana Fazlur Rehman established a permanent tribal jirga that integrates members across faiths and professional backgrounds. Due to limited resources he explained his inability to personally interact with every tribal leader despite his responsibility to do so.

The JUI-F leader emphasized his strong ties with the tribal communities by stating “I stand alongside the tribal people as one of their own.” Issues affecting tribal communities have a direct effect on me which leads to immediate action. My support for tribal rights remains constant as I remain dedicated to bringing regional prosperity and peace to the region.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman asked the state to address tribal grievances by establishing dialogue channels for proper settlements.
