The Constitution, the Courts and the Law: Azam Tarar’s ambivalent view of the justice system

Lahore: Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has once again clarified that the government is not considering any new constitutional amendment at the moment. According to him, the 26th Amendment was meant for institutional reforms, after which there is no need for further change – at least for now.

His statement came at a time when legal and political questions are being raised on judicial proceedings and certain cases in the country. Azam Tarar not only expressed satisfaction over the pace of the current judicial system but also responded to the allegations of “double standards” made by some quarters.

The federal minister said that if the state is attacked or the police or military institutions are targeted, it becomes inevitable to go through the legal process.
