Islamabad: Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, spokesperson for Pakistan’s military, has warned India not to block Pakistan’s water. He said doing so would cause serious problems for many years.
In an interview with a British news agency, he said the Pakistani government has already told India clearly about this issue. The military doesn’t need to say more for now. “No sensible person would stop water for over 240 million people,” he said.
He believes India is unlikely to do this, but if it does, Pakistan will take strong action, and the world will see what happens. “We hope it doesn’t happen, but if it does, there will be serious consequences,” he added.
Lieutenant General Chaudhry also said Pakistan is following its promises and respects the government’s decisions. He said the ceasefire on the border will continue, and both sides are working to build trust. But if India breaks the ceasefire, Pakistan will respond quickly and carefully, only where the violation happens.
He confirmed that during recent fights, Pakistan shot down an Indian Mirage 2000 jet. The Pakistan Air Force could have done more but showed restraint. “All our airbases are working well, and we can quickly fix any problems if needed,” he said.
He also criticized India’s Kashmir policy, saying it has failed. He said the conflict will not end until India agrees to talk honestly. There is still a risk of more fighting.
