Lahore: Important progress has been made in the preparations for the local government elections in Punjab.
It was decided in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Local Governments that the chairman at the district level will be a public representative instead of the Deputy Commissioner.
The proposal for direct election of minority and women representatives was also approved in the meeting.
The proposal was presented by Member of Provincial Assembly Philbos Christopher, which aims to bring forward transparent elections and real leadership.
The standing committee will present a final report on this law in the next meeting.
