Punjab Assembly Speaker’s mediation on PTI members’ disqualification successful, opposition and government agree on face-saving

LAHORE: The inside story of the hearing on the reference for disqualification of 26 suspended Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members of the assembly in the Punjab Assembly has come to light. According to sources, the discussions that started with the constitution in the important consultation headed by Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan reached the exchange of face-saving.

During the meeting, the Speaker initiated proceedings under Article 10A (Right to Fair Hearing). Instead of appearing in person, the suspended members appeared under the leadership of the opposition leader and requested to adopt a democratic attitude.

On this occasion, PML-N ministers raised the objection that their leadership was subjected to intolerable language. On which the opposition members admitted that the matter had gone beyond the limit from both sides.

The Speaker, while calling the meeting an opportunity, said that this session has been held to strengthen democratic values and give space to each other, and all parties must abide by constitutional rules.

Later, Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan confirmed in a media interview that the opposition has agreed to face-saving, which is likely to reduce future political tensions.
