PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) ameer Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said in a press conference in Peshawar that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cannot afford any new political conflict. He said that if change is to come, it should come from within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Terming the FATA merger as a “wrong decision”, the Maulana said that all political parties should review it. He said that the Grand Jirga of the tribes will meet once again and they will be consulted. According to him, JUI-F had previously taken decisions after consulting the tribal elders and the purpose of the merger was not just political capture but also a question of the future of the tribes.
He said that the committee formed by the government has recognized JUI-F as a party and has also asked for their names, but he questioned how many Pashtuns and representatives of the province are included in the committee related to FATA? “Why are the resources of our province being used only to get privileges?”, he asked.
Talking about the law and order situation, Maulana said that if approached by the opposition, he would definitely be willing to talk. He stressed that differences do not mean hostility, and despite ideological differences with the PP, PML-N or ANP, relations exist.
